I Did Not Expect to Cry

I fought tears during my twins’ cross country meet. I didn’t expect the urge to cry.

Having twins run on the same team means they are not together on the course since one is faster than the other.

So I stayed in one place to cheer each one on as they zoomed past me. “You’re doing great! You’re awesome! Keep going!”

After many minutes passed, I realized they would be passing by me again, this time much closer to the finish line.

Stay with me, this story has a point.

So I moved far away from the finish line. Other parents moved to the where the race would end, but that was not my plan.

As I saw each son coming up the hill I yelled, “The time to sprint is NOW! The finish line is close! Turn it on and run your fastest right now!”

And because I have twins, I could not watch the actual moment of finishing up close. I could only see from a distance.

As each son sprinted the final stretch, I beamed with pride. And the tears blurred my vision.

I whispered with a smile, “You did it. You did it well. I knew you would.”

It’s the same with God.

He can see your finish line. He knows what’s coming, but you don’t. Because you’ve never run this race before. You can only see a few feet ahead.

And He isn’t just waiting for you at the “finish line.” He’s where you are right now. He’s cheering for you, loving you, beaming with pride.

He knows you’ll run your race well. He won’t take His eyes off you. He knows it’s a path that’s not easy.

“Go! Go! Go!” He is with you, He is for you!
